In Bulgaria, the climate varies by region, in particular by various altitudes. In the northern part of Bulgaria, there is rather mild and typical continental climate with hot and dry summers and cold winters. The Black Sea and the southern areas there is more Mediterranean climate. Approximately one third of the Bulgarian territory is covered by forests.
